Sundown Horse Shelter Guestbook

Comments:
After hearing about Sundown Horse Shelter from my sister, Carol N., a volunteer at Sundown, I made a donation, and hope to come out for a visit to help, if the weather ever warms up.

I have had the privilege to volunteer at Sundown over the past month for a college course on animal rights. Going into the project, I did not know what to expect or how I would respond. Having grown up in a household without any pets, the thought of being around horses was a little daunting. After my first day working with Cherie however, my passion for horses began to grow and I now have a great appreciation and understanding of the importance of their welfare. I am excited to continue learning and always look forward to work days!

Volunteering at Sundown this morning made my week. Cherie and Jake surprised us with a sleigh ride which was absolutely fabulous--so scenic with the newfallen snow.

Upon our return we got a lesson in horse rescue 101 as a horse had got himself stuck against a fence and was unable to get back up. With help from Jake (and, in their minds, from the ponies who were offering reassuring nudges) we got him safely on his feet.

Working at Sundown has been the most rewarding volunteer position I have ever held. I look forward to my next visit! Thank you Cherie for all that you do! You are awesome!

Today Cherie surprised the volunteers with a sleighride, powered by the giant Jake. He is a horse with more than 1 horsepower - he didn't even slow down when the sleigh scraped across a bare patch of blacktop!
Jake was also the hero today to help move a fallen horse away from the fence so that he had manuevering room to get up. Life is interesting at Sundown Horse Shelter!
